Our Local Lead had the privilege of sharing two sessions at the 28th Annual Child Care Conference, one on music in the classroom (Tune Into Learning) and one on reading to young children (The Power of Playful Pages). The conversations with educators were rich and exciting, filled with passion for bringing learning to life. Quality change is happening in early childhood, and it is inspiring to see the commitment of teachers who are shaping bright futures every day. Chomp, chomp—Two Rivers School District came together to sharpen its vision for highly effective Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction alongside AFLP System Support Specialist Jacob Sisson. Kindergarten classrooms at Dardanelle Primary School are bringing executive function skills to life through the Fueling Brains framework. We are grateful to the University of Arkansas Partners Program, for their generous donation of sensory tools.These resources will directly support young learners as they build focus, regulation, and readiness for learning. In addition to this donation, the Partners team provided valuable training for our Early Childhood department on how to use these tools effectively with students. Strong partnerships like this help us equip educators with what they need to create inclusive, supportive, and engaging classrooms for every child!

Growing Brains, Growing Skills: Reframing Big Behaviors in Young Children Early childhood classrooms are the foundation for lifelong learning — and the way we speak to young learners shapes their brains, behaviors, and relationships. In PreK, Kindergarten, and First grade classrooms, big feelings and big behaviors are increasingly common, and navigating them has become one of the most significant challenges for educators and schools. This session will help teachers better understand the why behind these behaviors and equip them with tools to respond in ways that build connection, strengthen regulation, and support problem-solving. Participants will: Understand the “big three” executive functions — working memory, cognitive flexibility, and inhibitory control — and how they emerge in early childhood. Practice using positive, connection-focused teacher language that builds trust and safety while guiding behavior. Learn a reframing structure for shifting from correction to connection, helping students problem-solve instead of escalating power struggles.
