Arch Ford was honored to host a collaborative meeting with Local Leads, the Office of Early Childhood, Excel by 8, and our friends at the Center for Early Learning Solutions through Forward Arkansas.
The conversation was thoughtful, productive, and rooted in a shared goal… supporting young children, families, and educators across Arkansas. Together, we reflected on challenges, celebrated growth, and discussed how we can continue strengthening early childhood systems and supports moving forward.
There is something powerful about people from different organizations coming to the same table with a willingness to listen, learn, and work together for kids. We are thankful to be part of the work and excited about what is ahead.

The Behavior Playbook: A Game Plan for Collaborative Problem Solving
This session is designed for educators who are ready to shift from managing behavior to a system revolved around solving problems alongside students. Collaborative problem-solving offers not just a strategy but a lens—one that transforms challenging moments into opportunities for growth, connection, and lasting change. At the heart of CPS is a simple yet transformative mindset shift: kids do well if they can. When students struggle behaviorally, it signals that something is getting in their way. Rather than asking, “How do we make this behavior stop?” CPS guides us to ask, “What skills are lagging? What problem remains unsolved?” By identifying the underlying factors driving behavior, educators can move from reactive discipline to proactive, skill-building support.
Participants will explore the core components of the CPS framework, including:
The Assessment of Lagging Skills and Unsolved Problems (ALSUP) tool
The three “Plans” (A, B, and C) for responding to behavior
The structure of Plan B, the collaborative conversation process
Special attention will be given to Plan B, the engine of CPS. This structured, three-step conversation process includes:
The Empathy Step – gathering information and understanding the student’s perspective
The Define Adult Concerns Step – clearly articulating adult expectations or concerns
The Invitation Step – collaboratively brainstorming realistic and mutually satisfactory solutions
Throughout the day, participants will work through real-world scenarios drawn from elementary, middle, and high school settings. Small-group case studies will allow educators to practice identifying lagging skills, clarifying unsolved problems, and crafting Plan B conversations tailored to different developmental levels. These examples will help translate theory into practice across diverse classroom contexts.

Teachers and teacher assistants at Center Valley Elementary in Russellville recently spent the morning taking a deep dive into building executive functioning in their students. This staff has spent most of the school year learning what executive functioning is, how it develops, and the strengths and deficits within its functions. They have been exploring ways to identify scaffolds that build students' EF skills and exposing their students to lessons that raise awareness in the classroom.
During their deep dive, they spent time unpacking Cognitive Load Theory and working memory, which helped teams align universal and individual supports for students. They unpacked the three main EF areas and aligned supports to specific students in their school. This amazing staff also stepped into vulnerability by taking a self-assessment of executive functioning strengths and weaknesses! They discussed as a team and validated that collective efficacy is one of the most powerful aspects of a high-achieving school focused on growth for ALL learners. Meaningful conversations filled the room as early childhood providers and educators gathered for Learning Comes Alive Outdoors during Arkansas Children’s Week. Educators explored how rich learning and meaningful interactions can happen outdoors while connecting with colleagues from different programs and communities. Through partnerships with Local Leads in the area and collaboration with Arkansas State University Childhood Services, this event was made possible. When educators learn together, the impact reaches far beyond one classroom.
